ELYRIA — Three people were arrested as a car that was reported stolen in Cleveland was recovered in Elyria early Monday.
Dionta Willis, 21, of Cleveland, was charged with receiving stolen property at the Best Western Hotel on 636 Griswold Road in Elyria about 4 a.m. Monday. Two 17-year-old boys who were with Willis were also charged with receiving stolen property. One of the 17-year-olds incurred additional charges for speeding, no driver’s license and failure to comply.
A Lorain County sheriff’s deputy saw the car about 30 minutes earlier driving down Middle Ridge Road toward state Route 2, according to police. The deputy ran the license plate and saw that the car had been reported stolen in Cleveland as part of an armed robbery.
The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office didn’t have any more information on the robbery on Monday evening.
The deputy lost track of the car on state Route 2 as it traveled around 130 mph eastbound toward Elyria but found it again 20 minutes later parked behind the Best Western Hotel in Elyria, according to the report.
Security cameras in the parking lot showed Willis and the two 17-year-old boys who were involved in the incident with the vehicle, according to a sheriff’s report. The three were charged around 4 a.m.
Willis was being held at Lorain County Jail without bond.
