Allen “Al” R. Vimpeny, 81, of Elyria, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of Lorain, following a brief illness. He was born October 10, 1932 in Elyria, where he lived for most of his life.
Allen worked at York International for many years, before retiring in 1996. Following retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, doing puzzles, completing various crafting projects and watching any and all sports events.
He was a member of the Elyria Moose Lodge, an avid bowler for several Elyria leagues, Elyria Little League Coach and baseball player himself.
Survivors include his sons, Jeff (Ravonna) and Mike of Bradenton, Florida; daughters, Kathleen Napier of Michigan, Kathy Whisman and Bobbi Salas of Elyria; sisters, Betty King of Texas and Janet Tite of North Ridgeville; brother, Leonard of Indiana; 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy (nee Hill); son, Donald Vimpeny; daughter, Karen Foley; granddaughter, Christina; sisters, Millie and Corky.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Pastor Ronnie Gore, Lowell Street Baptist Church, will officiate.
