Catherine A. Cavagna

CavagnaCatherineCatherine A. Cavagna (nee Humphrey), 99, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Lifecare Center of Elyria, after having lived a long, very happy and fulfilling life. She was born January 28, 1914 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident.

She was a graduate of Elyria High School and Notre Dame College in South Euclid, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Catherine was a lifelong and active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria and was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society of the church. Her life has been of service to others.

For 40 years, Catherine was a active member of the Elyria Service League. During those years she served as Secretary, Vice President and President. She has been recognized for fifty years of continuous volunteer service at EMH Healthcare, having volunteered 8,627 hours. During those years she worked in the Emergency Room, the Library Cart, Admittance, Orthopedic Clinic and Messenger Services. She enjoyed her many years on the EMH Auxiliary Board, where she served as Secretary and President. Catherine loved her home, gardening, sewing and needlework. She delighted in her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann (Daniel) Golski of Grafton; grandson, John (Stephanie) Golski of Mason, Ohio; granddaughter, Kathleen (Russell) Coolman of Frisco, Texas; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Charlie Golski and Kathrine and Brian Coolman.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles B. Cavagna in 1996; parents, Frank and Anna (nee O’Donnell) Humphrey; brother, Frank A. Humphrey; and sisters, Maryanne Nugent and Patricia Langenderfer.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be Friday, November 22, 2013 at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral, home followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, Pastor and the Rev. Fr. Thomas Hagedorn will concelebrate. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
