Lawyers sentenced for bribery attempts

Two lawyers were convicted Tuesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in Cleveland of trying to bribe a rape victim to get them to seek leniency for her rapist.

Attorneys Marc Doumbas of Avon Lake and G. Timothy Marshall of Cleveland were each sentenced to one-year prison sentences after each being convicted of two bribery counts, according to a news release from Thomas McGinty, Cuyahoga County prosecutor. They were found to have tried to pay the victims of rapist Thomas Castro $150,000.

On Nov. 1, attorney Anthony Calabrese III pleaded guilty to engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and four counts of bribery in the case. On Monday, Lorain officials announced a $3 million settlement with Calabrese’s law firm, Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease, unrelated to the rape case.
