Mary Katherine “Kay” McKenzie

Mary Katherine “Kay” McKenzie, 73, of Wellington, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 18, 2013. She was born December 1, 1939.

Kay was the daughter of the late Harry Clifford and Mary (nee Hyland) Laughlin and was a 1958 graduate of Wellington High School. Kay will be remembered as a hard worker. She was a bookkeeper and receptionist at Dr. Belza’s office for many years. She also worked at the Village Market in Wellington, and Handle with Care in Oberlin. Most recently, Kay served as the custodian at the First United Methodist Church of Wellington. Kay was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington for over 50 years. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, valued friend and was affectionately known as “Grandma Kay” by many.

Her hobbies included bowling and puzzles, especially crosswords. Kay was extremely helpful to those around her and could often been seen with her trademark Coca-Cola. She treasured her grandchildren and valued her time with them.

Survivors include her children, Kevin (Karen) and Mark (Lori) McKenzie, all of Wellington; five grandchildren, Kyle, Erika, Emily, Keith and Julian; and brothers, Jim Laughlin of Seville and Tom Laughlin of Rome, Italy.

Friends and family will be received Friday, November 22, 2013, from 6 P.M. until the 7:30 P.M. Memorial service, at the First United Methodist Church of Wellington, with Reverend Paul Wilson officiating.
