Ernest E. “Ernie” Hume, Jr.

OBIT FLAGHumeErnestErnest E. “Ernie” Hume, Jr., 84, of Vermilion, formerly of Elyria, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013, at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain, following a long illness. He was born July 25, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan.

Ernie served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He attended college while working with Ohio Casualty Insurance Agency, following his military service, earning a degree in law. As an attorney, Ernie practiced law in Elyria for 44 years and worked for The Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office. He had been associated with the law firm of Pulito and Associates for many years.

He was a member of The Masonic Lodge and Grafton V.F.W. Ernie really lived his life. He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles and traveled all over the United States, including several trips to Sturgis, South Dakota for Bike Week. He loved to travel, camp and see the sights.

Ernie was blessed with many great friends, and will be fondly missed. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Burton (Mike) and Tracy Homenik (John); two stepdaughters, Heather Murphy (Jeff) and Wendy Misner (Jimmy). Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Rob Grills, Bridgette Hawke (Troy), Steve Bakos (Ali), Thomas Bakos, John Homenik, Jr., Kyle Homenik, Mark Homenik, Shelby Murphy, Jordan Murphy; and two great grandchildren, Ella and Davis Hawke; and his girlfriend, Mary Cercone.

Ernie was preceded in death by a son, Ernest E. Hume III; and his parents, Ernest E., Sr. and Vida (nee Thurman) Hume.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. (today) Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria, 440-322-4626. Funeral Service will be private. Burial and full military honors will be private at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

At Ernie’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, OH 44053 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
