Margaret E. Blackstone (nee Maloney), 84, of Elyria Township, passed away at her residence Monday, November 25, 2013. She was born in Elyria on March 11, 1929 and remained a life long resident of the city.
Mrs. Blackstone was a 1947 graduate of Elyria High School, and later went on to receive her diploma as a Registered Nurse from Lorain County Community College. She was employed as an RN at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain, retiring in 1987. Marge was a Parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, and was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society there. In addition, she served in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elyria Township Fire Department for many years. Prior to the establishment of the Murray Ridge Center, Mrs. Blackstone served as an educational planner for residents of Lorain County, who were challenged by developmental disabilities.
She is survived by her loving granddaughter and primary caregiver, Carolyn M. Dennis of Elyria Township; by her sons, Thomas (Linda) Blackstone of Wakeman and Jeffery Blackstone of Elyria; as well as her son-in-law, Gus Horak, residing in Sheffield Township; she also leaves additional grandchildren, James, Brian, Jarred, Terry, Allen and Jennifer; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Patricia Frye of Lorain; her dearest friend; and cousin, Judy Clevenger of Elyria; her prayer partner, Dee Mikolowski; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer in 1990; her son, Terry in 1991; her daughter, Joanne Horak in 2009; her parents, Henry and Florence (nee Fortman) Maloney; and her brother, James Maloney in 1973.
Please join her family for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Rd., Elyria at 12:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Reverend Donald Dunson, Pastor of the Parish, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel.
