ELYRIA — An Elyria man who robbed a Fuel Mart at knifepoint in July was sentenced Monday to four years in prison by Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Raymond Ewers.

Richard Simon, 27, pulled the knife on a clerk at a gas station on Oberlin-Elyria Road in Carlisle Township during the daylight robbery.

He took cigarettes and lottery tickets before grabbing a 15-pack of Natural Light beer and running out of the store. The clerk told police she recognized Simon, who worked in the area and was a frequent customer.

The clerk and a customer also obtained a license plate number for the vehicle Simon fled in, which allowed police to track down Simon, who was arrested after a brief chase.

Simon pleaded guilty in September to an aggravated robbery charge.
