Man shot in leg at Elyria apartment complex

ELYRIA — A man was shot in the leg in the Midview Crossing Apartments complex on Middle Avenue in an apparent robbery attempt about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The shooting occurred by building M. The victim ran to an apartment in the E building, according to a woman in that apartment who would not give her name. The man, who police didn’t identify, appeared to be in his early 20s and was conscious and alert when placed on a stretcher and taken from the apartment.

“When you find out who (the suspects are) let us know,” a police officer told the man, who told police the nicknames of the two suspects. “Got you,” said the man, who grimaced in pain as the stretcher was wheeled to an ambulance.

Residents reported hearing between 5 and 15 rapid-fire shots in the incident. Police, who said one of the two men they were searching for was wearing a red, hooded sweatshirt, searched for shell casings in the parking lot after the shooting.

I’m guessing that was because the man only gave nicknames. He probably has no intention of ever giving the real names for fear that they will return to finish the job. It’s kind of hard for police to do their job when victims won’t cooperate.
