Gail A. Jones

Gail A. Jones (nee Bungard), 69, of Oberlin, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, following a long illness. She was born July 15, 1944 in Oberlin and was a lifelong Oberlin resident.

Gail worked as a surgical nurse at Oberlin Allen Memorial Hospital and also as an Association Event Planner for the National Association of College Stores (NACS) in Oberlin. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin, a 1962 Oberlin High School graduate, a 1965 graduate of the MB Johnson School of Nursing. She was an avid reader and founding member of the “Bookmarks” book club, volunteered with the Ugly Quilts at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Elyria, was an animal lover, and a proud grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Doyle; daughter, Amy Jones of Oberlin; son, Bradley (Kelly) Jones of Sidney, Ohio; grandchildren, Abigail, Lyndsey and Brandon; mother, Myrtle (nee Davis) Bungard of Oberlin; and brother, Thomas Bungard of Oberlin.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Bungard; sister, Beverly Barkacs; and brother, Donald Bungard.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 6, 2013, from 4 to 7 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 7, 2013, 10 A.M., at Sacred Heart Church, 410 West Lorain St., Oberlin. (Please meet at Church). The Reverend Father Robert J. Cole, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at New Russia Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Oberlin Public Library, 65 South Main St., Oberlin, OH 44074.

    My heart is heavy with this news… Gail was kind, loyal, honest, funny, faith based and just a genuinely good person. So many memories, which bring smiles. My heart goes out to all the family. She will be missed by many here on Earth but Welcomed by many in Heaven. We will see her again…
