Robert “Bob”) Renninger, 64, of Avon, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at University Hospital in Cleveland, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Elyria and was a resident of Avon for 22 years.
He was a 1967 graduate of Keystone High School in LaGrange. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, a professional baseball player for the Cincinnati Reds and the Houston Astros. He also was retired as an agent for the Allstate Insurance Company.
Following retirement, Bob worked at the Grey Hawk Golf Club and was the pitching coach for the Keystone High School baseball team for seven years. He loved baseball, basketball and golf. His hobbies included flying model airplanes, bowling and was in a dart league. He was inducted into the LaGrange Keystone K.A.T.S. Hall of Fame, Class of 1998, 2006 and 2008.
Survivors include his daughter, Tina Walters of Farmington, New Mexico; grandson, Trae Walters of Farmington, New Mexico; mother, Thelma (Bob) Brehm of Elyria; brothers, Billy Jr. (Donna) of Richmond, Virginia, Dan (Karen) Nowak of Cleveland, Don (Fran) Nowak of Elyria; sister, Roxann Sebastian of Avon. He also has six nieces; three nephews; one great-niece and four great-nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Billy, Sr.; and stepfather, Chester Nowak.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria, where services will be held at 6:30 P.M. Pastor Rick Vanhorn will officiate.
