Willie Mae was born in Bluff, Oklahoma, January 9, 1939 and graduated from Douglas High School in Ardmore, Oklahoma. After graduation, she entered Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama to pursue her career in nursing. She moved to Oberlin after College and took on a position at Carter’s Nursing Home and also worked at Oberlin College and Timms Springs of Elyria, where she retired.
She was a member of Park Street Seventh Day Adventist Church of Oberlin, where she served in numerous positions; she was a Deaconess, Church board member and treasurer.
Willie Mae had a heart for her community and those less fortunate. She was one of 10 to receive the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary Club. She also started the food pantry at her church to feed all those in need. She lived to serve.
She is survived by her husband, Willie J. Johnson of 36 years; son, Anthony Johnson; and five grandchildren, Anthony M., Briana, Devin, Catlin, Markell; two great grandchildren, Ayanna and Jae; brothers, Byrd w. Cash, Jr. (Johanna) of Louisville Kentucky, Noel Cash (Pam) of Elyria, and Johnny Cash (Donna) of Elyria; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Byrd and Lu La Mae Cash; sister, Mable L. Fitzpatrick; brother, Benny E. Cash, Gene E. Cash, Sr. and J.C. Cash.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 P.M., Thursday, December 5, 2013 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, 127 W. Bridge St., Elyria. Friends will also be received from 11 A.M. until the 12 Noon Service, Friday, December 6, 2013 at Christ Temple Apostolic Church, 370 Lincoln St., Oberlin. Pastor Steven Valles, of Seventh Day Adventist Church of Oberlin, will officiate.
