Elyria blotter: Two residents report overnight home burglaries

  • 2:15 a.m. — 300 block Colgate Ave., a woman said around 1:45 a.m. she woke up to her dogs barking and she found that someone burglarized her home. She said a purse in the kitchen containing $75 was stolen. Police said they found the purse next to a garage at 345 Vassar Ave. They said they found a chair in the woman’s backyard underneath a window that may have been used to gain entry into her home.
  • 2:30 a.m. — Elyria Police Department, 18 West Ave., a man said he was stopped at a traffic light at Lake and Foster avenues when a van pulled up in the right lane. The man said his passenger window shattered and the van drove off.
  • 4:15 a.m. – 400 block Sixth St., Travaughn Fitzpatrick, 26, 100 block Riverside Drive, Elyria, cited for obstructing official business. Police said they found Fitzpatrick hiding in a bathtub after responding to a report of people fighting in an apartment. They said Fitzpatrick refused to identify himself when they found him.
  • 7:33 a.m. — 200 block Yale Ave., a resident said her home was burglarized overnight while she was asleep. She said a purse with $80 and a computer were stolen from the kitchen. Police said a screen to an unlocked kitchen window was cut to gain entry.
