Coroner says death of man found in pond not suspicious

HUNTINGTON TWP. – A man found in his submerged vehicle in a backyard pond Wednesday appeared to have drowned, according to Lorain County Coroner Dr. Stephen Evans.

Evans, who completed an initial autopsy of Brian Hoffman, 46, on Thursday, said Hoffman’s death is not suspicious. He said it is unknown whether Hoffman intentionally or accidentally drove into the pond.

Evans is waiting for blood test results from the autopsy.

Hoffman was reported missing on Nov. 26, two days after he was last seen driving on the north side of his property.

His body was found during a search of Hoffman’s property by investigators, who said the car was completely submerged in the pond.
