Thomas (Tom) Parsons, passed away at his home in Atlanta on Wednesday, November 19, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born in Lakewood, Ohio in 1958 and raised in Avon Lake, where he graduated from high school in 1977.
A talented local rock and roll musician, Tom played in a number of Cleveland area bands. Tom’s musical career highlight was his role as lead singer and guitar player for the popular local band, “Destiny.” During the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, Tom and Destiny played in front of several thousand enthusiastic fans on the Agora Circuit in Northeast Ohio and at Monopolies in Lorain. As a songwriter, Tom always appreciated WMMS radio station which played a number of Destiny’s original compositions.
As much as Tom loved life as a musician and entertainer, eventually life happened and he moved into the second phase of his professional life. By the mid-1980s Tom relocated to Atlanta where he gained recognition as a waterproofing expert. Over the next 25 years clients across the Southeast appreciated Tom’s unwavering commitment to fair dealing and customer satisfaction.
He was father to Jessica and Lauren (teachers in Florida), and Nicholas, a student at the University of Georgia. Preceded in death by his mother, Mona.
He is survived by his father, John Parsons; and by his sisters, Jennifer Beaton and Susan Betschman; and brothers, Richard Parsons and Steven Parsons; and granddaughter, Brynn.
A memorial service for Tom will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ followed by his burial at Lakewood Park Cemetery in Rocky River. Friends and family will gather between 12 and 1 P.M. to celebrate his life.
