A woman’s body was found after a house fire in Lorain on Monday night.

Fire houseThe fire was called in at 9:05 p.m. Monday to a two-story home at the 1012 E. Erie Ave. Flames and smoke were visible from the attic and roof when fire crews arrived on scene.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze until about 11:45 p.m., when they were able to search the house, according to Lorain fire marshal Jeff Fenn.

“We had reason to believe someone was in the house,” Fenn said.

The body of a 50-year-old female resident was found during a search of the second floor, and the state Fire Marshal’s Office and the Lorain County Coroner were notified.

Fenn said the victim was alone in the house with numerous cats and dogs, which also died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation by both Lorain and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
