Maria Bruno (nee Lallinger), 90 years and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family after a short illness. Maria was born in Germany, and came to the United States in 1953.
She was employed as a nurses aide at the former St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain, until the late 1950s. Maria wed her husband Dominic in 1955 and together they raised two daughters. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and reading. Maria was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria and in her younger years she was an active volunteer for both the church and it’s school.
Survivors include daughters, Monica Bruno of Chicago and Vicky Bruno of Amherst; and her sister, Anna Roman of South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic (1997); parents, Karl and Maria Lallinger; sisters, Hedwig and Louise; and brothers, Karl and Michael.
Family will receive friends Monday, December 16, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. Closing prayers will be recited at the funeral home 9:15 A.M., Tuesday, December 17 followed by 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
