Dale was born July 5, 1929, in Clearwater, Nebraska. where he was raised. He also resided in Omaha, where he met his wife, Arlene. They later moved to Virginia while he fulfilled his tour of duty with the U.S. Army. In 1955, work finally brought him to Ohio, where he laboured as a millwright for the Avon Lake Ford Motor Company. Amherst has been his home since 1966.
He retired from Ford after 26 years of service. He was a member of Church of the Open Door. As a young man, he worked for the Army Corp of Engineers on the Fort Randall Dam in South Dakota. He also worked turnpike construction in Ohio as a carpenter and concrete layer. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked for the U.S. Air Force on the facilities for the Strategic Air Command in Offutt, Nebraska. In his spare time, Dale found enjoyment in hunting with friends and family, wood working and bird watching.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Arlene Cary (nee Beckwith); his sons, Douglas (Anne) Cary of Lorain and David Cary of Amherst; his daughters, Valor Cary of Oberlin and Kate Beckwith of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Daniel Rogers, Shalanna Rogers, and Jared Vorkavich; two great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Nila Shrunk and Leola Heese, both of Nebraska.
Dale was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn and Benjamin Cary; and his parents, Leslie and Hazel Cary (nee Cooper).
Friends may call Thursday, December 19, 2013, from 6 until 8 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 20, 2013, at 11 A.M., in the funeral home. The Reverend Jeff Ahlgrim, Pastor of Life Church in Elyria, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
