Marlene Kay Hayslett (nee Bolyard), 73 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, went home peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at EMH Healthcare in Elyria, following a sudden illness. She was born January 10, 1940 in Arthurdale, West Virginia.
Marlene was raised in Lorain, graduating from Lorain High School in the class of 1958. She made her home in Elyria for the last 53 years. Marlene attended Elyria Business College and was employed as an office manager for several local companies.
Marlene was a faithful member of Elyria Baptist Church and a former member of Victory Baptist Temple in Elyria. Marlene had a servants heart and was known to be a prayer warrior, she was always willing to lend a helping hand, either cooking or decorating for the many banquets at church. She taught Sunday school for many years, and sang and was the director of the choir. She loved music and enjoyed singing. Marlene also started the young single’s group “New Horizons.” She was active with the ladies ministries, secret sisters and the Jolly 60s. Her hobbies included bowling, crafts and flower arrangements, which she loved to give to her many friends and family. Marlene was very charitable to many nonprofit organizations. She had a passion for the Cornerstone for Women in Elyria, volunteering with many fundraisers and also participated with the walk for life. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially attending the activities of her grandchildren.
Marlene leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 52 years, Marshall Hayslett; her daughters, Kimberly Logar and her husband, Timothy Logar of Sheffield Village; Tina Clark of Amherst; son-in-law, Paul Clark of Vermilion; her son and his wife, Scott and Brenda Hayslett (nee Looney) of Winter Springs, Florida; her grandchildren, Nicole Hardway and her fiance, Maurice Young, Ezekiel Hoyett, Timothy W. Logar, Zachary Kopp, Tristan and Travis Clark; three great-grandchildren, Naurica and Jordan Young, Maurice Young, Jr.; her brother, Robert Bolyard of Norwalk; her sister, Delores Markle and her companion, Tom Teaman of Elyria; and her two grand-dogs.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Rennie “Junior” and Bernard Bolyard; and her parents, Lorenzo and Argyle Bolyard (nee: Smith).
Friends may call Tuesday, December 17, 2013, from 4 until 8 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013, 11 A.M., at Elyria Baptist Church, 276 Washington Avenue, Elyria. The Pastor, Greg Lockridge, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
