Women start fight with Family Dollar clerks

LORAIN — Two women who entered a Family Dollar store Sunday started a fight, punching and kicking two employees before running away with a stolen phone, according to police.

About 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Valene Ranney, 28, told police she was working at Family Dollar on 1802 Broadway when three women entered the store, one of whom had a backpack.

Ranney told the woman she had to leave her backpack at the counter, but the woman ignored her, instead continuing to shop, according to the police report. After Ranney again asked the woman to leave her backpack at the counter, she began to follow the woman around the store until the woman turned around and started yelling at Ranney, according to the report.

Ranney said she began to call police, but the woman knocked the phone out of her hand and punched her in the face, according to the report.

A fight ensued, and the woman began to drag Ranney by her hair to the back of the store. Another store employee, Paige Gossett, ran to Ranney’s aid and was punched in the face by another woman. Gossett told police she was knocked to the ground and kicked by the second woman.

Ranney told police she made it to the store phone and started to call police when the women ran from the store, taking her cell phone with them.

Both employees refused medical attention, but police noted Ranney was bleeding from her hands and Gossett had cuts on her face.

Hmmm… another conspicuously absent description of the perpetrators.
