Browns pregame update: Cornerback Joe Haden active despite hip pointer, expected to start vs. Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Browns cornerback Joe Haden is active and expected to start today vs. the Jets. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at MetLife Stadium.

Haden sustained a hip pointer last week in the loss to the Bears when he took a knee to the hip. He couldn’t finish the game and missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. He returned Friday in a limited capacity and was listed as questionable on the injury report.

Haden looked good running and excited to be playing during warmups.

Haden shares the team lead with strong safety T.J. Ward with four interceptions. He’s second with 19 passes defensed (per the coaches’ film review), has 58 tackles and will receive strong consideration to make his first Pro Bowl. Rosters will be announced Friday.

The Browns inactives are tight end Jordan Cameron (concussion), left guard John Greco (knee), tight end Andre Smith (calf), quarterback Alex Tanney and offensive linemen Martin Wallace and Reid Fragel.
The Browns have only six inactives because receiver Davone Bess (personal reasons) was placed on the non-football illness list Saturday, and he wasn’t replaced on the roster.

Gary Barnidge will start in place of Cameron, and rookie MarQueis Gray will also see more playing time.
Jason Pinkston will start at left guard for Greco, and rookie Garrett Gilkey is expected to rotate in. Gilkey played the first three offensive snaps of his career last week.

The Jets inactives are quarterback David Garrard, cornerback Ellis Lankster, linebacker Jermaine Cunningham, guard Will Campbell, tackle Ben Ijalana, offensive lineman Oday Aboushi and tight end Chris Pantale.
