James Wayne Schmidt, 74, of Sanborn, New York, passed away at his home, Tuesday, December 17, 2013, after a long battle with ALS.
Jim was a 1957 Midview High School graduate, and a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1957 to 1961. He was a life member of the Rescue #5 Volunteer Fire Company in North Tonawanda, New York. He was the owner of Jim’s Mobil Tire, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion and Pendelton Center United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, euchre, Ohio State Buckeyes (“Go Buckeyes!”) and Buffalo Bills football, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was the beloved husband of Sandra J. (nee Wacker); dear father of Wayne (Deanna) Schmidt of Indiana and Troy (Shawn) Schmidt of North Tonawanda, New York; brother of Barbara (Al) Cashmir of Ohio, Warren (Beverly) Schmidt of Florida and the late Donald (Pam) Schmidt. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ryan, Lana, Heather, Austin, Clayton, Avery and Perry; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 28, 2013, 1:30 P.M., at the Pendelton Center United Methodist Church, 6864 Campbell Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY, 14120 where the family greeting time will be from 1 to 1:30 P.M., prior to the service. A reception with light refreshments will follow immediately after the service.
