Hockey game proceeds to benefit A.J. Vincent Scholarship fund

ELYRIA – The Elyria Panther’s Hockey Club is hosting a memorial hockey game for a former player killed in a drunken driving crash.

The AJ Vincent Memorial Hockey Game will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at North Rec Ice Rink, 901 Duffy St., Elyria.

A.J. Vincent was killed on Nov. 27, 2010, after his vehicle was struck by a drunken driver at Brandston Avenue and Poplar Street in Elyria. Three passengers in Vincent’s vehicle also were injured in the crash.

The driver who caused the crash, Mark Ralich, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and DUI last year.

Vincent, who was 18 when he died, played hockey for the Panthers from 1995 to 2006.

Elyria Panthers Hockey Alumni will play in the game, and two of Vincent’s friends who were injured in the crash will be team captains.

Proceeds from the game will benefit the A.J. Vincent Scholarship fund, which was started this year. Each year, the Vincent family will give a scholarship to a player or players to help with the cost of playing hockey.

Admission is $3, and children 12 and younger are free. There will be a 50/50 raffle, and other donations are welcome.

To help with the game or to make a donation, contact Barbara Spencer at (440) 731-2674. For more information, visit www.elyriahockey.com.
