Joy E. White (nee Johnston), 90, of North Olmsted, formerly of Elyria, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013, at West Bay Care and Rehabilitation Center in Westlake, following a long illness. She was born April 24, 1923 in Elyria Township. Joy was a 1941 Oberlin High School graduate. She was a founding member of The Church of The Open Door, a member of The Professional Woman’s Club, and volunteered at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Joy loved singing traditional hymns, and enjoyed travel, interior decorating and landscaping.
Survivors include her husband, Robert E.; two daughters, Leora J. Fix (Ozzie) of Franklin, North Carolina and Diana L. Aguilara (Michael) of Elyria; son, Benjamin “Randy” Souslin, Jr. of Nankin, Ohio. Additional survivors include five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothea Ruhl of California, Rebecca “Becky” Gardner of Grafton, and Joan Oblinger of California.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Ruth (nee Simms) Johnston; two sisters, Roberta and June; and three brothers, Frederick, John and Donald.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M., Thursday, December 26, 2013, at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria, (440) 322-4626, where the family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until time of service at 1 P.M., Thursday. Reverend Bob Wickens will officiate. Burial will be private at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria.
