NORTH RIDGEVILLE — The shooting of two men inside a home at 9410 Reed Road on Sunday afternoon is “likely” to have been drug related, police Lt. Vince Abt said Monday.

Suspected shooter Antoine C. Johnson, 20, of Cleveland, has been charged with two counts of felonious assault. Johnson is accused of shooting Daniel McCarthy, 20, of the 36000 block of Chestnut Ridge Road in North Ridgeville, in the arm, and Jonathon Hasselbach, 20, of North Olmsted, in the left leg.

Police said Johnson and a second man, 19, were apprehended just before 5 p.m. Sunday after a foot chase on Island Road near Don Mould’s Plantation, a nursery and garden store, about 1.5 miles from the home where the shooting took place.

The home is off Root Road south of Donna Drive. Police said the suspects fled the home after the shooting and tried to get away in a car that got stuck in mud in the driveway.

The 19-year-old was released but could be charged later, Abt said. He said the gun or guns used in the shooting haven’t been recovered.

Johnson appeared Monday in Elyria Municipal Court but hasn’t entered a plea. He is due back in court Thursday and was being held on a $50,000 bond at Lorain County Jail on Monday night.
