She graduated from Bedford High School in 1932 and married her high school sweetheart, Earl Skillicorn, who later worked for Ferro Corp. Luverne was an involved member of the Bedford Historical Society. She was involved with the acquisition of the Dunham House in downtown Bedford, for the Dunhams were her relatives, as well as the Hathaways, Collins and Milz, who were early founders and settlers in Bedford. She was a member of the Bedford Music Club. One of her gifts was her talent for hearing music and then being able to play it by ear on the piano. Because of this, she accompanied many groups. The most important aspect of Luverne’s life was her love of family.
She is survived by her three children, Douglas (Ruth) of Elyria, Robert (Judy) of Elyria, Sue (Bill) Paulus of North Canton; her nine grandchildren; and her 17 great-grandchildren.
Her parents, Ivan and Lottie Milz; her husband, Earl Douglas Skillicorn; and her brother, Wendell Milz, preceded her in death.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11 A.M., at the Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 521 Broadway Ave., Bedford, 44146, on Saturday, December 28, 2013. The funeral service will begin at 11 A.M., with the burial to follow at Bedford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bedford Historical Society, 30 S. Park St., Bedford, OH 44146.
