Arlen F. “Whitey” Volney, 76, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at the Lifecare Center of Elyria, following a brief illness. He was born December 18, 1937 in Cleveland and was an Elyria resident for most of his life.
Whitey was employed in sales and delivery for the former Thomasson Potato Chip Company for 18 years, retiring in 1999. Prior to that he worked as a milk man for the former Elyria Dairies for 20 years. Whitey was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, was an active member of the Elyria Knights of Columbus Council 774 and was a member of the Elyria United Polish Club. He enjoyed bowling, camping, playing golf and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Rita (nee Weber); daughters, Sheryl (David) Mariner of South Amherst and Darlene (Kevin) Stutz of Grafton; sons, Scott (Laisa) of Grafton, Andy of Twinsburg, Dave (Desiree) of Elyria and Ray (Judy) of Perkins Twp.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Teresa Mask and Frances Rothchild.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 1 to 5 P.M., at Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be Monday, December 30, 2013 at 9:30 A.M., in the funeral home, followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Reverend Father Charles Diedrick, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
