Earl LeRoy Clawson, 84, of Wellington, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013, at EMH Healthcare, after a brief illness. Born June 30, 1929 in New London to Harry and Ethel (nee Humphrey) Clawson, Earl was a 1947 graduate of Brighton High School.
Self employed his entire life, Earl owned and operated Clawson Sunoco among other enterprises. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wellington. Earl enjoyed life and had many interests. Every day was his hobby. Most recently, he could be seen selling popcorn to benefit Well Help.
Earl is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ida (nee McConnell); children, Ted (Sandra) Clawson, of Texas, Roger (Dianne) Clawson and John (Donna) Clawson, of Wellington; son-in-law, Craig (Tommie) Gibbins; five grandchildren, Matthew Gibbins, Amanda Hatcher, Megan Clawson, Adam Clawson, Sarah Holland; five great-grandsons, Jack, Charles, Keiser, Jameson and Roen; sister, Iris Tewksbury, of Amherst; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother; his parents; a daughter, Roena Gibbins; and an infant great-grandson, Henry Owen Hatcher.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 2, 2014, from 4 until 8 P.M., at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 3, 2014, 11 A.M., at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 140 S. Main St., Wellington, with Reverend Brian Burke officiating.
