Hildreth R. Knapp, 107 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away suddenly Sunday, December 22, 2013. Hildreth was born October 30, 1906, in Huntington County, Ohio and lived most of his life in Northern Lorain County in the Amherst and South Amherst areas.
He graduated with the class of 1925 from Homerville High School and was proud to be able to attend his 86th year class reunion. He worked as a metal worker at the Colson Corporation and then went on to work as superintendent at C & H Fabricating, a company he founded with two other partners, retiring at age 83.
As a member of First United Methodist Church of South Amherst, he faithfully served as a Deacon. He cherished his late wife of 62 years, Mabel Ruth Knapp (nee Hessler), and cared for her until her passing on August 14, 1999. He loved his extended family and will be missed by them all.
Survivors include his great nephew, Arthur (Sandra) Freed of Dade City, Florida; his great nieces, Janet (Tom) Clemons of Willard and Patricia Pierone of Zephyrhills, Florida; and his nephew, David Hessler of Jackson, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh, Gilbert, and Herbert Knapp; his sisters, Neva White and Lola Forney; and his parents, Warren Arthur Knapp and Rosa Selina Knapp (nee Laborie).
Friends may call Monday, December 30, 2013 from 9 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 10 A.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Gary Lunsford, Pastor of South Amherst United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
