Clarice J. Clark (nee Sexton), 70, of Elyria, passed away suddenly Saturday, December 28, 2013. Clarice was born September 22, 1943 in Grayson, Kentucky and lived there until 1965 when she moved to Lorain. Elyria has been her home since 1978.
She was a dedicated wife and homemaker to her family and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Elyria. Previously she was a member of Lorain Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher to 1st and 2nd graders and VBS worker for over 30 years. She enjoyed ministry, the gift of hospitality and being a Deacon’s wife.
Her hobbies included cooking, gardening and flower arranging. She found great pleasure in singing in a group with her sisters and brother-in-law called New Image. But by far, her favorite past time was spending time with her friends and family.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, George Rogers Clark; sons, Phillip and Annette Clark of Perrysburg, Paul Clark of Vermilion and Tina Clark of Amherst; daughters, Phyllis Clark of Grafton and Paula and Greg Beacom of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, J.W. Sexton of Middleburg, Florida; and her sisters, Shirley Yvonne Miles of Elyria and Martha Jane Herman of Wellington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherley and Roxy Sexton (nee Felty).
Friends may call Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 9 A.M. at Elyria Baptist Church, 276 Washington Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Greg Lockridge, Pastor of North Point Church in Oberlin, will officiate. Burial will take place at Western Reserve Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, Ohio.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Baptist Church Roof Fund, 720 East River Street, Elyria, OH 44035.
