Darrell C. Puckett, 82, of North Ridgeville, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013, at St. John Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born June 19, 1931, in Haysi, Virginia, and was a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 58 years.
Darrell was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War. After his service, he went to work as a Stationary Engineer at N.A.S.A. Lewis Research Center in 1955, retiring in 1987. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post 9871 in North Ridgeville.
Darrell was an avid bowler, bowling in as many as three leagues a week. He also enjoyed woodworking, crosswords, playing his harmonica and getting together monthly with his friends in the N.A.S.A. retirement group. He could be found daily at 12 Noon, enjoying the “Darrell Special” at Wendy’s.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl (Harold) Wiegand of Tallmadge, Linda Henry, Gary (Charlene) Puckett, Kieth (Laurie) Puckett and Jody (Kibby Henry) Crisp, all of Franklin, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four brothers; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his longtime fiancee, Betty Strosnider; parents, Leonard E. and Maude E. (nee Owens) Puckett; and brother, Avis Puckett.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, January 1, 2014, from 2 until 5 P.M., in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville, where Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014, at 10 A.M. Reverend Stephen Carter will officiate. Interment will be private.
