Dorothy Carroll Fox (nee Holliday), 94, of Elyria, and a former resident of North Eaton, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013, at The Meadows at Osborne Park in Huron, following a long illness. She was born December 8, 1919, in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Dorothy was a graduate of Elyria High School, Class of 1938 and the Oberlin School of Commerce. She had a long career as an Executive Secretary, working at The Pentagon during World War II, General Motors Ternstedt Division, American Standard, and Bettcher Industries. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Dorothy had a love for music, painting, poetry, and fiction writing. She has had many of her poems published in anthologies and small press publications, winning awards in some of them. Dorothy was also a contributing writer for Amherst News Time in 2002.
Mrs. Fox is survived by her daughter, Susan N. (nee Fox) Johnson of Catawba Island; and son, David A. Fox (Christine Szabo) of Amherst; grandchildren, Candy Zelinski (Mark), Kathryn Bennett, Karen Sperry (Michael), Cynthia Giacobbe (Robert), and Michael D. Fox; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor (nee Holliday) Whitehead of Oberlin and Roberta A. Holliday of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nell Sandford (nee McMillian) Holliday (1975); father, Fletcher J. Holliday (1980); brother, Richard (1951); half-brother, Clifford Cathey (1976); half-sister, Lucille Cornelius (1999); sister, Phyllis Welsh (2011); and grandson, Eric Johnson (2011).
Friends may call 2 until 4 P.M., Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be at 4 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home. Reverend June Dorsey, of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Elyria, will officiate. Interment will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery in Elyria at a later date.
