Man critical after freak accident

LORAIN — A Lorain man injured in a freak accident was in critical condition Monday night at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Edward Knipper was crushed between two cars in the driveway of his home in the 1500 block of West Ninth Street, according to a police report. Knipper, 72, was backing his Mercury Mountaineer out of his driveway.

Knipper got out of the Mountaineer without placing it in park and it began to roll. When Knipper tried to grab hold of the steering wheel and activate the brake with his right foot, he lost control and collided with a Ford Crown Victoria in his driveway and was pinned between the cars.

A neighbor said he found Knipper turning blue and not breathing. Firefighters were able to separate the cars and free Knipper.
