Thieves break into phone stores

ELYRIA — Police are looking into the possibility of a connection between two almost-simultaneous break-ins at an AT&T store and a Verizon store early Tuesday.

About 4 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to 1547 West River Road N. for an alarm at an AT&T store. Once there, they found someone had broken the front door of the store with a brick and stole four display phones but police couldn’t find a suspect. Moments later, police arrived at 1621 West River Road for another alarm at a Verizon store. Someone had broken the glass window at Verizon and stole two headphones from the store. Police couldn’t find a suspect.

Police are waiting to review surveillance tapes from both stores.

Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino said it is possible that the two incidents are connected, but there’s no evidence to verify that.
