Elyria Catholic grad and Sheffield Village native Brianne McLaughlin Bittle was officially named to the U.S. women’s hockey team set to compete in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

“I am extremely excited to be representing the USA for another round at the Olympics,” McLaughlin told The Chronicle on Wednesday night. “Hopefully (fellow Ohioan) Kelli (Stack) and I can bring back some gold to Cleveland. It’s been such a journey so far and I’m looking forward to the upcoming weeks.”

McLaughlin won a silver medal with the U.S. team at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Isn’t there a local girl in speed skating in the Olympics? Don’t know her name and haven’t read anything about her in the press. Someone told me there is a fund raiser for her at the Lorain IAV this Saturday……
