Nancy M. Payne, 85, of Vermilion, and formerly of Lorain, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, following a brief illness. She was born on April 21, 1928 in Lorain, to Domenic and Susie (nee Di Domenic) Pizzola.
Nancy was employed by the Lorain Board of Education as a cafeteria lunch aide at Larkmoor School for 13 years. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Marian Guild and a very active member of the church while she was healthy.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Judy) Payne, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and David (Evelyn) Payne, of Elyria; daughter, Marilouise (Lonnie “Pete”) Kitts of Vermilion; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and sister, Mary Ellis of Illinois.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Thornton, in 2008; and her granddaughter, Elise Briele Payne.
The Payne family will receive friends Thursday, January 9, 2014, from 5 until 8 P.M., in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where closing prayers will be held Friday, January 10, 2014, at 9:15 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M., at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. Reverend Father Richard Hudak, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
