Ruth E. Altfeld, 94, of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at The Wesleyan Village in Elyria. She was born March 12, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York, moving to Lorain at the age of 8.
Ruth was a member of Temple B’Nai Abraham in Elyria. She was also a lifetime member of Haddassah and Sisterhood organizations. Ruth was a board member of Elyria Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer at the hospital for over 25 years, earning a 3500 hour badge for her work there. After Ruth’s husband, Richard retired, they spent seven months a year in Weston, Florida to escape Ohio winters.
She was predeceased just six months ago by her husband, Richard, to whom she was married 70 years. Ruth leaves behind a daughter, Barb Littman (Danny) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a son, Ted Altfeld (Helene) of Elyria; grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Littman, Simone Deitch (Mike), and Dena Altfeld; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Ravi, and Clara. Ruth was also preceded in death by a sister, Leona Slutzker.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M., Thursday, January 9, 2014, at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626, where Rabbi Lauren Werber and Reverend Beth McKee will co-officiated. Burial was held at Salem Cemetery, Lorain.
