Darlene G. McKinney (nee Roberts), 74, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 while under the care of New Life Hospice. She was born in Pound, Virginia on March 4, 1939 and had been a resident of Lorain for more than 50 years.
In her free time Darlene raised Cocker Spaniels and Boston Terriers, in addition to her love for animals, she also enjoyed baking and solving crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Robert M. McKinney, Sr.; son, Robert J. McKinney, Jr. (Wendy) of Lorain; daughters, Patty Gorman (Scott) of Godley, Texas and Angie Hembree of Lorain; she also leaves eight grandchildren, one great grandchild; and sisters, Sue McReynolds and Ocie Woods, both residing in Virginia.
Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (nee Bowens) Roberts; granddaughter, Nicki Jump; seven brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be Monday, January 13, 2014 from 10 until the time of funeral services at 11 A.M. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Scott Mitchell, Pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
