Therese J. Glowaski (nee Tracey), 80, passed away peacefully in the presence of her husband, Ed, surrounded by her loving family and holding her two daughters’ hands at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center on Friday, January 10, 2014, following a short illness. Therese was born May 2, 1933 in Lorain and lived in Elyria for most of her life.
She was a member of St. Jude Church, the Church’s Altar and Rosary Society and the Bereavement Group. When her children were young, she was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and involved in the Girl Scouts. She was an avid fan of Ohio State and the Cleveland Indians and she enjoyed painting ceramics and attending craft shows and spending time with her grandchildren and going to dinner with her brother, Terry and his wife, Marilyn.
Therese met the love of her life, Ed, at Neisner’s Five and Dime, where she worked at the nail polish counter, one day while she and her lifelong friend, Irene Byam, were sitting at the soda fountain. She and Ed were married for 58 years. After he retired, they enjoyed going to casinos and playing cards with her family.
She was truly devoted to her husband and family, always wanting the best for them. She was more than a mother to her adult children; she was their friend too, and her loss will leave a huge void.
She was a member of Club 51, which she and her friends from the 1951 graduating class of Elyria Catholic High School met monthly for dinner for the past 25 or so years. She always looked forward to seeing her friends and cherished their time together. Therese was always generous and wanted to help those in need. She regularly would donate to causes she felt worthy.
She is survived by her husband, Ed, of 58 years; four children, Ed Jr. of Elyria, Dawn (Ray) Warner of Elyria, Jeff (Leanne) of LaGrange, Mary (Jerry) McHugh of Elyria; two grandchildren, Chaz (Becky) Hixon and Grace Canon; and her granddogs, Isabella, Penelope, Charm, Koda, Jazda and Jypsy; great-granddog, Calvin; she is also survived by two brothers, Bob Tracey (Erika) of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Terry (Marilyn) Tracey of Elyria.
Therese was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry, Jack, and Ted Tracey; two sisters, Audrey Ballard and Irene Coates; and her parents, Joseph and Agnes (nee Burns) Tracey.
Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Private funeral services will be in the funeral home at 10 A.M., Thursday, January 16, 2014. The Rev. Fr. John Seabold will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
