Work to begin on Griswold Road

ELYRIA TWP. — Construction is scheduled to begin Monday on the Griswold Road project and will likely result in traffic disruptions.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, workers will begin bringing in equipment, taking delivery of materials and setting up the traffic control for the project. They plan on starting a waterline installation project Thursday.

During this phase of project, one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.

Either flaggers or a portable traffic signal system will be used to control traffic around the water line work zone. Normal work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Crews will work Friday if unable to work Monday through Thursday due to weather.

The construction project has been awarded to Fabrizi Trucking & Paving Co. of Valley City.

The project consists of widening Griswold Road to three lanes and improving the intersection of Griswold and Leona Street in Elyria Township. The project has a price tag of $4.9 million.

A new sanitary sewer and new storm sewers will also be installed for the length of the project.

In addition, 1,300 feet of the old waterline will be replaced at the eastern end of the project. The existing asphalt pavement will be replaced with three lanes of concrete pavement with a new curb and a new traffic signal will be constructed at the Griswold and Leona intersection.
