Charles “Chuck” V. Wray, 81, lately of Parma, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born December 24, 1932, to Charles M. and Marjorie J. (Schilling) Wray in Long Beach, California and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Chuck’s life long passion was golf. An excellent player, he worked as the Assistant Professional at the Westmoreland Country Club in Export, Pennsylvania and held a PGA card for many years. He gave golf lessons in Pittsburgh during the 1950s and in Sebring, Florida in the 1990′s. He attended Long Beach City College, attaining an Associate Degree in Business; and made his living in sales. He was the first National Sales Manager for Moen, Inc.; and the founder of Wray Enterprises, a plastics manufacturer in Elyria. Besides his family, Chuck’s other love was cuisine and he attended the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute; opening cafes in Garland, Texas and Sebring, Florida in the 1990′s. As an avid sailor he enjoyed many hours on the water.
Mr. Wray was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his children, Connie Butler of North Ridgeville, Julie (Bob) Maiolo of Nashville, Tennessee; Chuck Wray, Barbara (Billy) Butler, Denton, Texas, Janice (Mark) Tapajna of Cleveland; grandchildren, Charlie, Katie and Jackie Wray, Samantha Ash, Daniel and Sydney Butler, Marjorie, Carly and Gina Maiolo and Tess Tapajna; and a great grandson, Jonathan Perry Sida.
The family is holding a private memorial at a later date.
