Oden was an Ordained Elder in The United Methodist Church and served his Lord in the Baltimore-Washington Conference, the East Ohio Conference and the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He served the Broadway UMC of New Philadelphia for 11 years. Retiring again he moved to Tampa, where he served the Lord at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church in many different yet unofficial roles.
Married to Phyllis Bond Haynes, Oden was the father of Steven of Wellington, Sharon Holsapple (Harry) of Forest Grove, Oregon and Carol Marvel (Fred) of Farnham, Virginia; he is also survived by four grandchildren, Harris (Sarah), Kurtis, Michael and Shelby Holsapple; great grandson, Harris Hudson Holsapple V; and his beloved dachshund, Cody; four brothers, Richard, David, Dale and John; six sisters, Barbara Fleming, Marjorie Woltmann, Nancy Pardue, Eleanor Meier, Peggy Eppley and Donna Coe. There are also too many nephews and nieces to count, but Oden was especially close to his niece, Debbie Sawmiller (Darryl) and her son, Jonathan, who lived close to him in Tampa.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Haynes; and his parents, Oden M. and Thelma Haynes.
Memorial Services will be held in Tampa, Florida and in Grafton. Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church of Tampa will host a Memorial Service at 1 P.M., Friday, January 17, 2014, followed by a reception. LaPorte United Methodist Church of Grafton will host a Memorial Service at 2 P.M., Sunday, January 19, 2014, followed by a reception. Inurnment will be Monday, January 20, 2014 at 10 A.M. at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cleveland.
