Jack J. Burgess, 81, of Elyria, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was born October 8, 1932 in Ottawa, West Virginia and was a Elyria resident for most of his life.
Jack worked at the former Del Lumber Co. in Elyria for many years, retiring as a yard foreman in 1995. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed being outdoors.
Survivors include his daughters, Donna (Bo) Pelfrey and Jackie (Jim) Patterson, both of Elyria; son, Bill (Brenda) Fowler of Lorain; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2011; one sister and three brothers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 11 A.M. until the time of services at 1 P.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev. Charles Keesee, Pastor of Midway Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, where members of V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
