Cecilia L. Tornabene (nee Oravec), 91, of Elyria, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014, at Oak Hills Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness. She was born January 12, 1923, in Lorain. She lived in Lorain until moving to Elyria in 2010.
Cecilia graduated from Lorain High School and during World War II she worked for American Crucible in Elyria. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, baking, sewing, and puzzles. She was the caregiver of the family. For many years, Cecilia made baby and children quilts anonymously for Birthright in Lorain and Cornerstone Among Women in Elyria.
Surviving is her son, Joseph (Mary) of Elyria; grandchildren, Roelf Tornabene and Vanessa Pappas; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph in 2011; a son, Tom; a daughter, Dorothy Tornabene; parents, Adolph and Mary (nee Soltis) Oravec; brothers, Frank, Joe, John, Eddie, Tony, Sylvester, and Adolph; sisters, Mary Baker and Clara Oravec.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 6 to 8 P.M., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue., Lorain, where Funeral Service will be Friday, January 24, 2014, at 9:30 A.M., followed by Mass, at 10 A.M., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th St., Lorain. Reverend Robert Glepko, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
