In Lorain County during 2013, 81% of all deadly crashes on the roads involved alcohol or drugs. The Lorain County Safe Community Coalition reminds fans that while Super Bowl Sunday is one of America’s biggest and most entertaining national sporting events, it is also one of the Nation’s most dangerous days on the roadways due to impaired driving. In preparation to cheer on your favorite team in the Super Bowl, be sure to recruit a designated driver.
“We make plans with our friends for the big game… whose house we’ll be watching from, who will bring chips and dip, and who will be the grill master. The same attention should go into making a plan for a sober ride home,” says Lt. Travis Hughes, Post Commander at Ohio State Highway Patrol- Elyria Post, and Coalition member.
The Lorain County Safe Community Coalition encourages all fans to…
- Recruit a Designated Driver before the game begins.
- Host Responsibly with non-alcoholic drink options, and make sure each team member has a sober ride home.
- Call in Defense if you spot an impaired driver on the roadways. Ohio State Highway Patrol: 1.877.772.8765, Lorain County Sheriffs Office: 440.323.1212
