William John Slater, 83, of North Ridgeville, quietly passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Arden Courts Assisted Living facility in Westlake, of a short illness. He was born in Cleveland on June 11, 1930. Mr. Slater had been a North Ridgeville resident for approximately 50 years, previously he resided in Cleveland.
William served in the Air Force during the Korean war, where he met his wife, Ingeborg, while he was stationed in Germany.
He was a machine operator for Dow Chemical, an Auxiliary Policeman for North Ridgeville for 22 years (1968 to 1990) and was a substitute mailman for a short while.
He loved animals, especially his dogs. Every time he sat down, a dog would be on his lap. He was allergic to cats, but that didn’t stop him from sitting with a cat too!
William will be missed by his family, which includes his wife, Ingeborg of 60 years; daughter, Linda Slater of Elyria; and son, Dale Slater of Elyria; as well as a host of loving friends that he considered family.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at 2 P.M., at the North Ridgeville VFW.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Berea Animal Shelter and/or Stein Hospice, in his name.
