Man sentenced to prison in fatal DUI crash

ELYRIA — A Columbia Station man was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for a fatal crash in Eaton Township in 2012.

Kevin Runyon, 26, likely won’t serve his entire prison sentence, however. Under the terms of his plea deal, Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Mark Betleski said he will grant an early release to Runyon after he completes a year behind bars.

Runyon pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and DUI during a November court appearance.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, Runyon struck the back of a motorcycle ridden by Curtis Porter III of Liverpool Township on state Route 82 on May 13, 2012.

Runyon was accused of fleeing the scene, but returned a few moments later. A test later determined that Runyon had a blood-alcohol level of 0.146, well above the legal driving limit of 0.08.
