William C. Haney, 83, of Elyria, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014, at home, after a long illness, with his family by his side and under the wonderful care of Hospice of the Western Reserve and Nurse practitioner, Christen Gunder.
William was born July 15, 1930 in Elyria. He was a graduate of Toledo Libby High School and attended Elyria Business College. He served with the 720th Military Police Battalion in Tokyo, Japan in the early 50s. William worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years. He also enjoyed being a high school football and basketball official for 30 years and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marie (nee Schilling); daughter, Julie Haney of Wakeman; son, William Haney (Roberta) of Elyria; grandchildren, Jason Haney, Jaime Haney, Derek Haney, and Amanda Tatem (Seth); five great-grandchildren; and good friends, Maryann, Ron, Ray; and loving dog, Bucky.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ada (nee Knipper).
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119.
