High Schools: Majority of today’s games set to be played; other makeup dates announced

More super-cold weather means more postponements for today’s high school schedule.

But after the entire schedule was wiped out Tuesday and most of Monday’s was canceled as well, at least the majority of games are still on for tonight even though most schools in the area canceled classes.

That’s because a little warmth is supposed to return this afternoon, meaning only a few schools made other plans for their games tonight.

In girls basketball, two Patriot Athletic Conference games — Keystone at Firelands and Brooklyn at Clearview — have been moved to Thursday night.

The Southwestern Conference, Brecksville at North Olmsted and Westlake at Berea-Midpark — a battle for first place in the league — have been postponed. No makeup dates have been set.

Elyria Catholic’s West Shore Conference clash at North Ridgeville has also been postponed and will be played Feb. 8.

A couple of bowling matches have also been put on hold: North Ridgeville vs. Vermilion at Lake Erie Lanes and Open Door vs. Firelands at Slovak Club. No makeup dates have been set.

In boys basketball, Elyria Catholic travels to Rocky River for a makeup game in WSC action with the JV game set to start at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow around 7:30.

In other news, several boys basketball games now have makeup dates:

Elyria at Vermilion, Feb. 15 with the varsity to start at approximately 6 p.m.; Westlake at Amherst, Feb. 11; North Olmsted at Olmsted Falls, Thursday; Wellington at Fairview, Feb. 8; Brooklyn at Firelands, Feb. 8; Firelands at Vermilion, Feb. 17 due to a conflict with the Vermilion band/choir; Firelands at Clearview, Feb. 22.

Girls makeup games include: Brookside at Firelands, Feb. 10; Firelands at Clearview, Feb. 22.

In hockey, Midview and North Canton Hoover will play the makeup of Sunday’s postponed game Thursday at 8:45 p.m. at North Park Rec.
