Thomas “Tommy” Pruitt, 44, of Lorain, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family and friends, after a four month battle with cancer. He was born March 18, 1969 in Columbus. He lived most of his life in Lorain.
He graduated from Lorain High School in 1988 and attended Tiffin University for two years studying criminal justice and playing football. For 10 years, Tommy worked as a truck driver at United Van Lines. Most recently, he was employed as a corrections officer for the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department and worked there the past 14 years. He loved sports and weight lifting, and hanging out with his friends and his daughter, Haven. He was always the life of the party!!
He is survived by his beautiful daughter, Haven Grace Pruitt of Sheffield Village; his two handsome stepsons, Joey and Jacob Lacek, both of Beckley, West Virginia; his parents, Russell and Patricia (nee Stratton) Pruitt of Lorain; his maternal grandfather, Donald Stratton of Lorain; his brother, Russell E. (Nichole) Pruitt, Jr. of Lorain; and his sisters, Tammy Lutz and Tina (Dennis) Sommers, both of Lorain; and a handful of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and tons of friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Pruitt; maternal grandmother, Dorothy (nee Sisco) Stratton; paternal grandparents, Ollie “Catherine” and Oscar Pruitt, Sr; his uncles, Kenneth, Benny and Oliver “Dean” Stratton; and a nephew, Richard Lutz, Jr.
The Pruitt family will receive friends Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the funeral center. A private burial will take place at a later date in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
